[i never knew]

What a strange life. What is it about music? Sometimes there's just that song that completely captures it all. That tone. That feeling. That state of being. The loneliness. That hope. That sadness. How can it be so overwhelming? But I guess it's true...even in the midst of feeling that you are going to fail completely...not survive it....not be capable enough...not find what you're looking for...that in the end, everything will be alright. And you will be alive. You will make it.

"Everything Will Be Alright"
by The Killers

I believe in you and me
I'm coming to find you
If it takes me all night
Wrong until you make it right
And I won't forget you
At least I'll try
And run, and run tonight
Everything will be alright
Everything will be alright
Everything will be alright
Everything will be alright

I wasn't shopping for a doll
To say the least, I thought I've seen them all
But then you took me by surprise
I'm dreaming bout those dreamy eyes
I never knew, I never knew
So take your suitcase, cause I don't mind
And baby doll, I meant it every time
You don't need to compromise
I'm dreaming bout those dreamy eyes
I never knew, I never knew
But it's alright...

Everything will be alright
Everything will be alright
Everything will be alright
Everything will be alright

[to be the freak that God made me...]

Oh, hello.

Sorry it's been a while. Figured it's time for an update! So my Syrian the Shaadster is in Jordan and then Syria for the next 6 weeks. What's a girl to do!? Jeneva went to the homebase in New Orleans and then onto Texas for family adventures. I miss her dearly! Rebecca went to NY for the weekend with Mike (oh, and yes...I adore Mike). No Rebecca means no white wine via heavy sloppy pours into my glass - sad sobriety. Okay. maybe not sober. Who am I kidding? I'm having a Dos Equis Amber as I type the word sobriety. Ha. I know I'm not fooling anyone. That aside...

Oh - have I mentioned lately that I am the newest bartending face of Bertucci's? It's true. Kristen is officially a BARTENDER! I love it! I am getting more and more comfortable behind the bar and have befriended many a golf-lover in a mere two days! Now I know all about a birdie and a boagie (spelling?) and can officially say that I'm in love with Tiger Woods. What a hot piece of man!

Have been staying in the Shaadster Palace while he is away and during this time Tim and I are figuring out our living arrangements for the upcoming months...I think we've settled on separate apartments at PoPark. We're handling things really well, I think. And this way, the snickerdoodles (aka Charlie and Roxie the cutest kitties en todo el mundo) will be able to see both of us in convenient fashion. No one ever tells you how hard joint custody is to figure out for the little pets that work their way into your hearts! Snugglebunnies!

Mostly I've been getting in touch with reality lately. It's been nice to be forced into a solitary situation and I've been able to enjoy the little things that Kristen has always loved but missed during this very challenging and busy year. Things like:

Cleaning the bathroom and organizing toiletries.
Dancing to Mis-Teeq and Kanye and Michael J in underware.
Sleeping in a giant bed and spreading the hell out.
Playing online scrabble (my newest addiction) without judgment.
Listening to KRS One without judgment!
Writing in the trusty journal.
Spending way to much time on facebook.
Sleeping in with no distractions.

I haven't turned on the t.v. to pop in a netflix in about a week and I've gotta say, it feels great. I have so been enjoying the sounds of silence, as my faves Simon and Garfunkel would say, with great pleasure. Do you know how great the song Sexual Revolution by Macy Gray is? Just a question. Seriously. She has the most amazing voice! Love it love it.

Here's a lyrical sample:

Everybody shake it.
Time to be free amongst yourselves.
Your mama told you to be discreet.
And keep your freak to yourself.

But your mama lied to you all this time.
She knows as well as you and I.
You've got to express what is taboo in you.
And share your freak with the rest of us.

Cause it's a beautiful thang.

(oh here comes the beat...)

This is my sexual revolution.....

Everybody break it.
Every rule every restriction.
My papa told me to be home by now
But my party has just begun.

Got to be the freak that God that me...

There may be things I want to try.
Gotta do them before I die!

God - how can a song with lyrics like that NOT be the shiz nit?

Fire up Macy!

Okay, on that note...I'm going to finish my beer and perhaps start some Art History reading for class tomorrow morning!

Love you guys!

[bouncy, random aka totally normal]

So, all-niters are my new thing. Yes, it's true. I've pulled more all-niters in the last 2 months than ever before in my life. School is over and there's no excuse for it, and yet, my system is all charged up for 'em. So keep 'em coming, I guess. At some point in the hopefully near future, I will actually get my act together. But why start now?

So my semester ended well and I have to say that I was so proud of my progress. Everything improved dramatically - not to say that I'm like some kickass perfect designer because obviously, I'm not. But let's just say that everything started to click. And now I'm a typography nerd.

Been chilling with the Shaadster and Jeneva like it's my religion. Drinking a lot of Woodchuck Cider and participating in activities that some might say are not necessarily healthy, but I figure you only live once and you're only a student as many times as you take out ENORMOUS student loans. So enjoy it. Or as the tagline for the newest Die Hard movie suggests, LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD. Ha, you gotta love Bruce Willis, no?

Am happy to hear that friends are doing well. Hot Tamales moved to Connecticut with her man and left the Office Box for good. tracie is embracing air conditioning, doggie love and bbq dreams in her new home. Running Guru Fred is rockin' the massage industry like there's no tomorrow. Official Running Buddy Jessica is officially coming back to this country from her year long stay in Israel. Tim is flying to Boston as we speak to pursue teaching gigs for the weekend. I am up late acquainting myself with my newly logged in Facebook account while taking breaks to work on random fun design doodlery.

Been working a lot at Bertooch and have actually been enjoying it a lot. Tips are improving and I've been able to prove my Rick James and Ike Turner trivia knowledge. I've also been eating a lot of Caesar salads and cream-heavy pizzas. Gina has a new blog: www.cavitydust.blogspot.com which chronicles her trials with the official worst stalker in the world and her freaky deaky artwork (which rocks by the way). You should definitely check it out.

Have I mentioned that I still love bacon?

And did you know that there's a fun little Peach Pit called Carvings across from the Statesman that sells really yummy coffee and lots of sandwiches. And has what must be the largest stock of beverages on the east coast? Yes - including Nantucket Nectars Half and Half - best drink ever!

Johnny Rockets officially opened in 2000 Penn on Monday and I was there for an opening day meal. Rocked it and rocked it again. I won't be surprised if I weigh 200,000,000 lbs before the summer is through! What kind of girl am I anyway - hello bikini weather?

Well that's my update for now. Scattered, I know. But I hope you missed me like I've missed you and that you are doing well and have bounce in your step when you're walking down the street.

Hope to talk to you soon, my friends!

Love, K.

[midol, hair pulling and coca-cola]

So it's late Saturday night and I've had a really productive day. I was able to crank out my final identity project (due Monday a.m. spiral bound into a lovely little booklet) and resize, format and upload my final skateboard design to boardpusher.com (we're having real live skateboard decks created with our original designs), and design a cd package for my website.

Tim came up to the Shaadster's Palace and we all enjoyed another episode of 'Lost' - a very emotional Sawyer episode from Season 2. So far, I think the season's been pretty darn good. Also enjoyed some youtube fun, walks down J Street, and lots and lots of food, soda, apple juice that literally tasted like I was biting into an apple, and Scissor Sissters.

Anyway, in the process of trying to research internships in graphic design. I would really like to find something that isn't conservative or brochure related. I think it's going to be a tough journey! But there's gotta be a hip shiny little gem hiding somewhere under the suits and cubicles of Washington, D.C., don'tcha think?

Hope all my peeps I never see but still think of and love are doing well. I have a very strong feeling that I'm missing birthdays and all other important dates that good friends remember. I apologize for that, as I have been very self-centered lately, trying to avoid emotional breakdown due to various enormous looming and passing deadlines and additionally, suffer from a serious case of misplacing dates in my mind and apartment.

Speaking of apartments, this morning I woke up to the worst cramps of my life after screeching in my sleep for what must've seemed like an eternity to the soundly sleeping Tim, over the pain in my uterus that was tricking me in my dreams and a small white-tummyied kitty named Charlie Bella walking all over my head and pillow and consequently, pulling my hair. Ouch. But Tim went to CVS for me and got me some trusty Midol and promptly removed said cat from my head. What a gent!

As for now, I'm going to post this long overdue entry on my blog for those of you who are still reading (thank you, Hot Tamales!) and will close up this fiery hot lap top for the eve. I'll finish my coca-cola and lean back in a chair.

Hope you are having a great weekend!

love,
Kristen

[nugget news & other updates]

Today is Saturday and it's been a good one. I had the day off from Bertucci's and so I slept in to make up for lost sleep on Thursday night. And by slept in, I mean I was out until about 1:00 p.m. It felt great. Shaadster and I chilled for a bit and then Geelite, Tim and I went to Lindy's for some burgers and fries and then cabbed over to the Nineth Street Gallery to attend the Opening of Turker Ozdogan's two-person show. It was a great body of ceramic work (he makes it look so effortless) and the whole gang was there....meaning Carlito showed up!

We hung out there for a while and then came back to PoPark. Now I'm at the Palace trying to do complete my website design. It's getting harder just because I'm fixing up details and adding important elements that weren't required initially. I think I'm really going to enjoy website construction.

Last night, Jeneva came over and we all started watching Season One of Lost - the greatest show of all time. I've still not seen the seasons that follow, but I'm super excited to at some point. I'm happy that Shaadster is getting into it, at long last.

I want to send out a blogging congratulations to Nugget who has just received acceptance into the PhD program in Clinical Psychology in Chicago! I forget the name of the school - I suck - but I'm so happy for her and this huge decision she's decided to make. I think it's the right one.

Sooooo.......

Congratulations, Nugget!
